Why we follow Château Haut-Brion

The estate

The oldest of the great estates and the only First Growth outside the Médoc, in Pessac-Léognan on the edge of the city of Bordeaux. Owned by Domaine Clarence Dillon, it was making renowned wine when Samuel Pepys wrote of it in 1663.

The vineyards

Around 50 hectares of deep gravel amid the suburbs, a warm microclimate that ripens Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc early. A small white production is among the world's greatest dry whites.

In the glass

Haut-Brion has a singular signature: warm gravel, tobacco, smoke and earth over dark fruit, powerful yet supple, with a savoury complexity all its own. The white is rich, mineral and extraordinarily long-lived.
