Why we follow Château Lafite Rothschild

The estate

First among the First Growths in the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild has been held by the Rothschild family since 1868. From its gravel rise in the north of Pauillac it has come to stand for restraint and refinement, the quiet, aristocratic face of Bordeaux.

The vineyards

Around 112 hectares planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, on deep gravel over limestone and marl. Old vines and gentle winemaking are the source of the estate's famous delicacy.

In the glass

Lafite is about perfume and poise rather than power: cedar, graphite, cassis and violets, with silky tannins and a long, cool finish. In great vintages it ages effortlessly for decades.
