Average Critic Score: 97.0/100

Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger's prestige cuvee and one of the benchmark expressions of Chardonnay in Champagne. It is made only in the finest years, entirely from grand cru fruit in the heart of the Cote des Blancs, with a small portion of the blend matured in oak before a decade resting on lees in the fourth-century Gallo-Roman chalk cellars beneath Saint-Nicaise in Reims.

This is a fantastic and refined Blanc de Blancs. So layered and complex, with lemon curd, chalk, hazelnuts, pastries, baked apples and almond croissants. Structured and tightly wound, with almost imperceptible bubbles. Delicious salty notes at the end. Beautiful. Drink or hold. - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com (99 points)

Named to James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of the World 2022, and awarded 96 points by both Alison Napjus and Gary Walsh of The Wine Front, who called it "a richer iteration of this wine, but so finely balanced... not a hair out of place."

Critic Reviews

99 Points - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

“This is a fantastic and refined Blanc de Blancs. So layered and complex, with lemon curd, chalk, hazelnuts, pastries, baked apples and almond croissants. Structured and tightly wound, with almost imperceptible bubbles. Delicious salty notes at the end. Beautiful. Drink or hold. Reviewed 17 November 2022. 96 Points - Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator

“A gorgeous blond bombshell of a Champagne, fragrant with roasted hazelnut, vanilla and smoke notes that waft through layers of poached pear and quince, pastry cream, pain d'epices and candied ginger. This is sculpted by a vibrant acidity that's seamlessly knit to the plush, silky mousse and chalky underpinning. Drink now through 2033. Reviewed 27 December 2022.”

96 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

“Vanilla pudding, floral notes, biscuit spice, white peach, a little saline. It's a richer iteration of this wine, but so finely balanced, fine bubbles, salt cracker, smooth and even texture, and not a hair out of place. So composed. I like the apple crumble flavour here too. Superb length. Beautiful to drink. Reviewed 18 July 2024.”
