Clos des Argillieres lies in Premeaux on lighter, sandier soils, and it gives one of the more elegant, approachable faces of Nuits. Expect fresh red cherry and strawberry, a fine mineral lift and silky tannins, all framed by Rion's careful, lightly whole-bunch hand. A premier cru with charm rather than muscle. Lovely from 2026.

"Cask sample. Deep cherry. Red and black fruits (again) - cherries with a bit of earthy, ferrous depth. This is really very fine already. A whole layer of extra fruit compared with the 2021. (MH) (Drink between 2027-2037)" - Matthew Hayes, jancisrobinson.com (17+/20)

Domaine Patrice et Maxime Rion (Premeaux-Prissey)
Founded 1990, now led by Maxime Rion, with finely perfumed reds across Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. Holds Clos Saint Marc, the smallest monopole in Nuits; a serious family address on a rising trajectory.

Critic Reviews

94 Points - Allen Meadows, Burghound

“Moderate reduction masks everything but traces of wood and spice. More interesting are the vibrant and super-fresh medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate density while concluding in a firm, serious and impeccably well-balanced finale where touches of minerality and rusticity slowly emerges. This is also very promising. (Drink starting 2034) Original score: 91-94 points”

94 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous

“The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillieres 1er Cru is strict on the nose at first, buttoned-up black fruit, the whole bunches (30%) neatly assimilated. The medium-bodied palate offers succulent, ripe black fruit commingling with blood orange, graphite and touches of black pepper. This wine has a beautiful build, which feels long and tender on the finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2028-2052) Original score: 92-94 points”

94 Points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

“A very dense crimson purple. Luxuriant on the nose, though possibly for the first time in the line-up there is a suggestion of over ripeness. Not racked, but with some whole bunches. Very intense, good acidity behind saves the day, lush plums on the palate. The final feel is a touch too rich, but the racking may refine this. Original score: 90-94 points”
