Clos Saint Marc is the jewel of the domaine, the smallest monopole appellation in Nuits-Saint-Georges at under a hectare, enclosed within Clos des Argillieres on limestone full of fossil oyster shells. From sixty-year-old vines and tiny in production, it is richer and plumper than its neighbour, with a deep red-fruited core and a distinct saline, oyster-shell mineral signature. A collector's premier cru. Cellar from 2028.

Domaine Patrice et Maxime Rion (Premeaux-Prissey)
Founded 1990, now led by Maxime Rion, with finely perfumed reds across Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. Holds Clos Saint Marc, the smallest monopole in Nuits; a serious family address on a rising trajectory.

Critic Reviews

97 Points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

“A powerful bright purple. The bouquet shows a refinement ahead of all the other premiers crus chez Rion, plus a little energy from the whole bunches which pop up through the bright raspberry fruit. Brilliant intensity, some blueberries, properly ripe fruit throughout, yet with a startling energy and drive right across the palate. Chapeau! Maxime's smile shows that he knows how good it is! I certainly agree! Original score: 94-97 points”

95 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous

“The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St. Marc 1er Cru was picked around September 4th. It has a more backward yet exquisitely defined bouquet with white pepper and clove filtering through the precise black fruit. The medium-bodied palate has smooth tannins and sweet black fruit laced with white pepper and blood orange. It is slightly stricter than the Argillieres on the finish but feels longer and more focused. Excellent. (Drink between 2026-2048) Original score: 93-95 points”

94 Points - Allen Meadows, Burghound

“An elegant, perfumed and softly spicy nose is comprised mostly by notes of poached plum, black raspberry and a wisp of exotic tea. The succulent and caressing medium weight flavors possess both better density as well as a more refined mouthfeel thanks to the fine-grained tannins supporting the impressively long, balanced and complex finale. This is excellent and recommended. (Drink starting 2032) Original score: 92-94 points”
