Collection: Western Australian Chardonnay

Pannell Family Chardonnay from Pemberton and Singlefile The Vivienne from Denmark in the Great Southern lead this look at Western Australian Chardonnay, alongside cool-site Karridale wines from Rowe and Juniper and Margaret River's benchmark estates.

Western Australia's Chardonnay story reaches well beyond Margaret River. Pemberton, inland among the karri forests, is cooler and wetter, with loamy soils that give fine, citrus-driven wines with a gentle, savoury texture. Further east, the Great Southern, which takes in Denmark, Mount Barker, Porongurup and Frankland River, has a cool maritime and continental mix that produces Chardonnay of tension, white-peach fruit and long, mineral acidity. In the far south of Margaret River, Karridale shares some of that cool-climate restraint.

From Pemberton, Pannell Family (Picardy) shows the region's poise, and from Denmark, Singlefile The Vivienne is one of the Great Southern's finest single-vineyard wines. Rowe and Juniper add single-site Chardonnay from Karridale. For comparison, the range also includes Margaret River's benchmark estates, among them Leeuwin Estate Art Series, Cullen Kevin John, Pierro VR and Vasse Felix Heytesbury, which are covered in depth on the Margaret River Chardonnay page.
