Critic Reviews
100 Points - James Suckling, jamessuckling.com
“The second most concentrated Yquem after 1945, according to the winemaker. About 160 grams of residual sugar. So approachable now, but better in five or six years. It will live forever.”
100 Points - Colin Hay, jamessuckling.com
“A wine of incredible aromatic purity, reminiscent of the 2009. Apricot, toasted brioche, saffron, honey, frangipane, roasted pineapple, beurre noisette, butterscotch, and a touch of grapefruit zest. Even amidst its intense sweetness, the freshness is sensational – a saline grip carries the wine from the mid-palate to a long, sapid finish. This Yquem marries power with poise, and its salinity builds beautifully through the close, finishing with notes of roasted pineapple, lime zest and grapefruit. The freshness here is integral to the power and brilliance of the wine.”
100 Points - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
“Combining incredible power, sweetness, and opulence with racy acidity and a touch of bitterness on the backend that offsets all the rich, honey-slathered fruits, it takes only a single sniff and sip to discern that this is one of the great vintages produced by Château d’Yquem. The palate showcases its wealth of honeyed fruits alongside Indian spices and a vibrancy found in no other sweet wine. The wine envelops your palate, teeth, and gums, leaving you with a zesty finish that lingers for a full 60 seconds and more! A legend in the making – you can enjoy this in its youth or save it for your grandchildren. Drink from 2027–2100.”
98 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous
“The 2022 Yquem (80% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc; 160 g/L residual sugar, 5.39 g/L total acidity) is the estate’s first certified organic vintage and shows the lowest sulphur levels ever used. Aged 24 months in new barrels with a gentle drying process to retain green tannins. The bouquet is understated yet exquisitely detailed, with scents of orange pith, passion fruit, quince and chamomile. The palate is medium-bodied and impeccably balanced, with vivid flavours of clementine, wild honey, quince and tangerine. Despite its concentration, it’s not weighty or unctuous – the bright acidity and touch of salinity deliver precision and lift. A marvellous, cerebral Yquem that rewards patience.”
