Domaine de la Chapelle represents the next chapter in one of Hermitage’s most historic lineages, centred around the famed La Chapelle vineyard on the hill of Hermitage. The estate takes its name from the iconic stone chapel that overlooks the vineyards, long a symbol of one of France’s greatest terroirs.

Le Chevalier de Sterimberg Blanc is the estate’s benchmark white Hermitage, named after Gaspard de Sterimberg, the crusader knight who is said to have founded the Hermitage vineyard in the 13th century after retreating to the hill as a hermit. His legacy still defines the identity of Hermitage today.

The wine is sourced from a selection of exceptional parcels across the hill, where granite and alluvial soils provide both power and precision. Predominantly Marsanne with a small portion of Roussanne, the blend captures the richness, texture and longevity that make white Hermitage one of the Rhône’s most age-worthy styles.

Critic Reviews

95 Points - James Suckling, jamessuckling.com

“A vibrant, precise and dense blend of 87% marsanne and 13% roussanne. The nose expresses aromas of kumquats, citrons, verbena, wild herbs and mild spices. It's medium-bodied with bright acidity. Sharp and intense, with such drive. Powerful, with a succulent development on the mid-palate. Refined and lively with a long, focused finish. Drink or hold.”

94 Points - Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous

“The 2022 Hermitage La Chapelle Blanc Le Chevalier de Sterimberg unwinds with fragrant linden blossom, green apple, white peach, lemon flesh and lime skin. Medium- to full-bodied and crisp, the 2022 brings it home with subtle phenolic bitterness on the sapid finale. It aged 90% in 16-hectoliter concrete eggs and the remainder in a combination of barriques and demi-muids, with very little new oak.”
