Average Critic Score: 94.67/100

The 2023 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux is sourced from 70 to 80-year-old vines worked by horse. Jasper Morris MW awarded it Five Stars and 94-96 points, Neal Martin 93-95 points from Vinous, and Tim Atkin MW 93 points.

A rich glowing purple. Strict, firm yet very intense, such a vast weight of luscious fruit, a good balancing acidity and tannins which are perfectly refined, silky. This has the extra to caress the throat. - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy (94-96 pts)

Drink from 2031-2038.

Critic Reviews

96 Points - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

“Five Stars. From the upper part of Champeaux, in the little quarries, on the rock. These are 70 to 80-year-old vines made with pedicel. Worked by horse, as there is no tractor access. A rich glowing purple. A touch of white pepper on top of the intense dark red berry fruit. Strict, firm yet very intense, such a vast weight of luscious fruit, a good balancing acidity and tannins which are perfectly refined, silky. This has the extra to caress the throat. Drink from 2031-2038. (94-96 pts)”

95 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous

“The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru comes from a site with 70- to 80-year-old vines, worked by horse as it is not accessible by tractor (this has been done since 2008). This has a slightly reductive bouquet, though there is still a sizable concentration evident here. The palate is medium-bodied with a powerful opening, slightly confit-like red fruit, hints of marmalade and blood orange and a slightly more exotic, licorice-tinged finish. Very fine. (93-95 pts)”

93 Points - Tim Atkin MW, timeatkin.com

“93 points.”
